Member of Technical Staff

We're looking for an exceptional researcher-engineer who doesn't distinguish between the two. You'll work on hard problems at the frontier of AI — the kind that don't have known solutions yet.

About Numeo

Numeo builds AI agents for the American trucking industry. Our products help carriers find loads, negotiate rates, manage documents, and automate daily dispatch operations.

We work with thousands of trucking companies across the U.S. — from owner-operators to mid-size fleets. Our team ships fast, iterates constantly, and builds products that operators rely on every day.

About the role

Numeo is building AI agents that do real work in the real world — starting with the U.S. trucking industry, and not stopping there. We're a small team with an extraordinarily high bar. This role is for someone who wants to work on the hardest problems in AI, ship things that matter, and do it alongside people who are just as obsessed as they are.

Member of Technical Staff is our core research-engineering role. There is no divide between research and engineering here. You'll go from reading a paper on Monday to having something running in production by Friday.

What you'll do

  • Work on frontier model research — pretraining, post-training, RLHF, inference, agents, or whatever the most important problem turns out to be
  • Design and run experiments at scale, form hypotheses, and iterate fast
  • Build the systems and infrastructure needed to make your research real
  • Collaborate directly with the founders and the rest of the team — no layers, no bureaucracy
  • Help define the technical direction of the company

What we're looking for

  • Exceptional ability — we care far more about what you've built or discovered than where you went to school
  • Deep understanding of machine learning, from theory to implementation
  • Experience training or fine-tuning large models (language, multimodal, or otherwise)
  • Strong engineering fundamentals — you can write clean, fast, production-grade code
  • High agency and low ego — you figure things out, you don't wait to be told, and you don't need credit
  • Genuine curiosity about how intelligence works

Nice to have

  • Publications at NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, or similar — though a great GitHub beats a mediocre paper any day
  • Experience with RL, RLHF, or reasoning-focused post-training
  • Background in systems (CUDA, distributed training, inference optimization)
  • Prior experience at an AI lab, frontier startup, or top research group

Benefits & perks

  • $1,000,000+ total compensation (salary + equity)
  • Equity that actually means something — we're early
  • Compute budget — whatever you need to do the work
  • No bureaucracy, no performance review cycles, no nonsense
  • Work directly with the founders every day
  • Relocation support to San Francisco
  • Health, dental, and vision
  • Paid time off — take what you need

Compensation

$1,000,000+
